From the loss of one of our own, an idea is born to forever
memorialize those who share a love for the ocean and the great sportsfishing
resource of South Carolina.
The SC Memorial Reef will be a part of the Charleston Deep
Reef Project to create a special
place of honor and reflection for the sportsfishing community that share,
protect and respect our outstanding offshore resource.
While South Carolina is fortunate to have an abundance of near
shore artificial reefs, The Charleston Deep Reef will be the first artificial
reef of its kind off the South Carolina coast to benefit the offshore fishing
community.
Located over 50 miles from the Charleston Jetties, the The
Charleston Deep Reef will provide habitat for a variety of deepwater pelagic species and serve to enhance the outstanding offshore fishing opportunity
enjoyed off of South Carolina.
With preliminary approvals in place, funds are now being
raised to purchase, transport and place the reef material.
It is imperative that all funds are secured prior to
notification that suitable materials are available for the reef construction.
In cooperation with the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund,
your tax deductible donation will help to create a lasting memorial to the
fishery and to those of the sportsfishng community that have gone before us.
